GREEK: πολλῶν ἐπάρξας ἐθνῶν καὶ πάσης ἐπικρατήσας οἰκουμένης, ἐβουλήθην, μὴ τῷ θράσει τῆς ἐξουσίας ἐπαιρόμενος ἐπιεικέστερον δὲ καὶ μετὰ ἠπιότητος ἀεὶ διεξάγων, τοὺς τῶν ὑποτεταγμένων ἀκυμάτους διὰ παντὸς καταστῆσαι βίους, τήν τε βασιλείαν ἥμερον καὶ πορευτὴν μέχρι περάτων παρεξόμενος ἀνανεώσασθαί τε τὴν ποθουμένην τοῖς πᾶσιν ἀνθρώποις εἰρήνην.
ENGLISH (draft-awaiting-approval): Having ruled over many nations and gained mastery of the whole inhabited world, I resolved -- not puffed up by the arrogance of power, but always conducting myself with fairness and gentleness -- to establish for my subjects a life forever free from turmoil, and, by making the kingdom peaceable and passable to its very ends, to restore the peace desired by all mankind.
